Meet Ally, Communications Manager
“I love cats, reading, and looking for mushrooms among the ferns and moss.”
Meet Ally Harris
Ally Harris is an educator turned communications specialist with over eight years of experience teaching college-level English and communications classes on food ethics, social responsibility, and cultural appropriation.
She earned her MFA in Creative Writing from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and has worked as a freelance editor, copywriter, and grant writer.
At the start of the COVID-19 lockdown, she moved to Texas and transitioned from education to communications for Texas Housers, a nonprofit dedicated to fair housing practices.
There, she monitored eviction courts and reported important findings to keep people housed. Because she witnessed so many people experience housing issues due to flooding, extreme cold, and COVID-19, it inspired her to continue working at the intersection of climate and social justice.
For fun, she writes, plays with her cats, hunts for mushrooms, and runs a (now on hiatus) reading series called Submission, which won a Regional Arts and Culture Council grant in 2019.
